As part of this year’s Baraza, Trust Africa is collaborating with Thrive Afrika to run a Storytelling Track: “Afrikan Stories for Social Change.

” This initiative harnesses the powerful tradition of Afrikan storytelling to amplify the voices and work of social movements across the continent. By spotlighting critical social justice issues, it aims to inspire collective action and challenge injustices.

We are inviting submissions from Afrikan storytellers who are connected to and working with social movementsphotographers, filmmakers, writers, poets and multimedia storytellers — to submit their creative works that celebrate and amplify the work and power of social movements; addressing themes of social impact, activism, and ethical inquiry.

Twenty (20) selected participants will engage in a two-month mentorship program (February to March), through which they will get their capacities strengthened and produce works with the support of highly experienced mentors and facilitators. Selected works will be showcased at the ASM Baraza through exhibitions, publications and digital platforms, sparking meaningful dialogue on Afrikan narratives and their role in driving accountability, justice, and transformation.

Program Highlights

  • Mentorship & Training: Participants will learn from seasoned mentors in a variety of storytelling techniques, including mobile journalism, documentary photography, multimedia production, and more.
  • Showcase: Participants’ final works will be featured at the ASM Baraza, engaging an audience of activists, leaders, and creatives from across the continent.
  • Participation Grants: All selected participants will receive a participation grant. A few participants will be chosen to attend the ASM Baraza in person in Accra, Ghana.
